Chris Cox's 1964 Ferrari 250LM secured the Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award for 2024. This news roundup covers major concours winners, auction announcements, industry updates, and upcoming automotive events.
The winner of the tenth annual Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award, announced in Paris on the eve of Rétromobile, is Chris Cox's 1964 Ferrari 250LM. Only 32 of these cars were produced, and this particular example had a successful racing career from 1965 to 1967, competing at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1966 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1968. Since being acquired by Chris Cox in 2018, the car has been featured in the Enzo Ferrari Museum’s 75th anniversary ‘Ferrari Forever’ exhibition in Modena and displayed at Pebble Beach. It earned the Best of the Best distinction after winning Best of Show at the 2024 Palm Beach Cavallino Classic.
Cox expressed his gratitude for the recognition, describing it as the highest honor achievable by a car collector. Peninsula Classics co-founder Christian Philippsen praised the 250LM as one of Ferrari's most revolutionary models, noting its competitive motorsport history. The other finalists for the award included impressive cars such as the 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Spider, 1957 Ferrari 335S, and 1934 Bugatti Type 59 Sports, among others.
Elsewhere in the collector car scene, events like Concorso d'Eleganza Japan are set to return, with the next run scheduled for Yakushiji Temple in March. RM has also announced a new Milan auction in May featuring 50 cars. Other major industry news includes expansion plans from auction platform Bring a Trailer, which is launching operations in Europe.
The Salon Privé and London Concours events are evolving with new glass galleries to enhance the luxury experience for attendees, while celebrating notable anniversaries such as the Bugatti Veyron's 20 years. The world of collector car auctions and events remains dynamic, with dealers and specialists preparing for a busy season filled with exhibitions, sales, and special celebrations.
